Partner in Hope: Guatemala

Our Community-to-Community Partnership with El Oreganal

Inspired by Christ’s love, we are entering a relational partnership to release the potential within the vulnerable community of El Oreganal, starting with its children.

Antioch Missionary Baptist Church is excited to announce our new Community to Community partnership with Children’s HopeChest to ignite hope and release the potential within the vulnerable community of El Oreganal, Guatemala. Inspired by Christ’s love, we are entering into a highly relational journey to walk alongside children and families, fostering two-way transformation that shapes both our congregation and the community we serve. Through this partnership, we commit to supporting the CarePoint’s vision for sustainable impact, providing holistic development for 25 children through the unique "Friendship" sponsorship model. We invite you to join us as a catalyst for change, moving beyond basic needs to empower a generation with life skills, discipleship, and a meaningful relationship that assures them someone truly believes in their future.

About the El Oreganal CarePoint

The El Oreganal CarePoint in Guatemala is a central hub for our Community-to-Community partnership, focused on serving a location that has been traditionally overlooked by other organizations and government programs. Children’s HopeChest has operated in Guatemala for 13 years, utilizing an asset-based approach to empower local leaders and foster Godly relationships. At this specific site, our mission is to facilitate holistic development for children, addressing their spiritual, physical, cognitive, and socio-developmental needs, while simultaneously investing in community-wide improvements and economic development. Since HopeChest began working with this community in 2022, the CarePoint team has successfully eliminated malnutrition among all 140 children currently sponsored in the program.

The "HopeChest Friend" Sponsorship

  • The Friendship Model: Instead of choosing a child, you upload your photo and a child at El Oreganal chooses YOU.

  • What it Provides: Discipleship, education, nutrition, and medical support.

  • A Long-Term Bond: Sponsorship is a long-term relationship, as children often stay in the program for 15 years, typically graduating between ages 21-25.

  • Beyond Money: HopeChest Friends offer encouragement through prayer and letter writing.

Community Development Projects

  • Nutrition Program: The CarePoint serves breakfast twice weekly to approximately 105–120 children.

  • Dreams and Stitches: A sewing business that provides machines and training to local women, helping them build savings and learn financial skills.

  • Building for the Future: HopeChest Friends is currently raising funds to complete a permanent CarePoint building, with a remaining need of approximately $150,000.

  • Local Healthcare: The CarePoint has negotiated pediatric visits down from $50 to $5 to ensure children have access to medical care.
