Genesis 37:1-24

What does it look like when God is quietly at work behind the scenes of a deeply broken family? In Genesis 37, we find ourselves inside one of the most dysfunctional households in all of Scripture, and yet the hand of God is moving with unmistakable purpose. The story of Joseph being stripped of his coat and thrown into a pit by his own brothers is not simply a tale of sibling rivalry and jealousy. It is a window into how God's sovereignty operates alongside human freedom. We make real choices, bear real consequences, and yet somehow the grand design of God is never derailed. This passage challenges us to look at the difficult and painful circumstances of our own lives and ask whether we truly believe that a sovereign God is weaving something purposeful through them. The hatred Joseph faced for living uprightly is a mirror held up to our own experience. When we choose integrity in a world that rewards compromise, we should not be surprised when the world pushes back. Joseph's story reminds us that godly character will always attract opposition, and that opposition does not mean God has abandoned the plan.
