Morning Service Live Stream

In today’s service at Antioch Baptist Church, Pastor Bruce continued the journey through Genesis with a powerful message from Genesis 28:10–22, titled "The Staircase to Heaven."

The sermon connected Jacob’s ancient dream of a ladder to the New Testament reality of Jesus Christ, reminding us that God is not a distant judge, but a Father reaching down to meet us exactly where we are.

Service Highlights

- Musical Ministry: We were blessed by Ricky Atkinson and Compassion Band whose songs centered on God’s faithfulness. Highlights included "Jesus Comes in the Clouds," "Handfuls on Purpose" (the story of Ruth and Boaz), and the powerful anthem "Still I Will Praise You," a reminder of Job’s resolve to trust God even in the "bitter cup."

- Children’s Lesson: Using Luke 15, the children learned about the Shepherd who leaves the 99 to find the one lost sheep. It was a beautiful reminder that among 8 billion people, God knows and loves each of them personally.

The Message: Jacob at Bethel

Jacob was at his lowest point—running for his life from his brother Esau, stripped of his family, and sleeping in the wilderness with a stone for a pillow.

1. The Dream: A Bridge Between Worlds

As Jacob slept, he saw a "ladder" (more accurately a stairway or staircase) that reached from the dirt of the earth to the throne of heaven.

- The Sight: Angels were "ascending and descending" on it—mighty beings of power and ministry, not the "fat babies with wings" seen in popular art.

- The Promise: God stood at the top and gave Jacob a first-hand promise: "I am with you. I will keep you wherever you go."

2. The Transformation of Bethel

When Jacob woke up, his perspective shifted from fear of his brother to the fear of the Lord.

- Luz to Bethel: He renamed the place Luz (Almond Trees) to Bethel (House of God).

- The Vow: Jacob consecrated the stone pillow with oil and promised to give a tenth (tithe) of everything back to God, acknowledging that everything he had belonged to the Lord.

The "So What?": Jesus is the Ladder

Pastor Bruce bridged the Old and New Testaments by looking at John 1:47–51. Jesus told Nathaniel that he would see "heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man."

- The Separation: Sin in Eden created a "great gulf" between man and God.

- The Solution: Jesus is the staircase. He is the only bridge that allows a holy God to dwell with sinful man.

- The Invitation: You don't get to heaven by building your own ladder of good works. You simply put your foot on the first step—faith in Jesus Christ.

Key Takeaways

- You are not alone: Just as God met Jacob in a barren desert, He meets you in your "wilderness" moments.

- The Journey: Salvation is the first step, but the Christian life is a daily climb up the staircase toward glory.

- The Perspective: We are not marching toward the grave; we are marching toward Glory.
