Acts 6:1-15

The early church faced a critical moment when rapid growth threatened to divide believers along cultural lines. As thousands came to faith, Greek-speaking Jewish Christians felt their widows were being overlooked in daily food distribution. Rather than allowing resentment to fester, the apostles demonstrated profound wisdom by involving the entire congregation in solving the problem. They asked believers to select seven men filled with the Holy Spirit and wisdom to oversee this practical ministry. This wasn't about creating bureaucracy but about ensuring that spiritual qualifications came first. The result was remarkable: when the church addressed internal needs with godliness and fairness, the gospel spread even more powerfully, and even priests began converting to Christianity. We learn that God blesses congregations that handle conflicts biblically, prioritize spiritual character over worldly credentials, and remain faithful in seemingly small tasks. Stephen, chosen to serve widows, became a powerful witness precisely because he was faithful in humble service. This challenges us to ask whether we're willing to serve wherever God places us, trusting that faithfulness in small things opens doors to greater kingdom impact.
