Psalms 23:1-6

May 31, 2026    Bruce Gordon

In this Vacation Bible School message, Pastor Bruce Gordon unpacks the opening line of Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” He explains three key words—“Lord,” “shepherd,” and “want”—showing God as the covenant‑keeping Lord (Yahweh) who keeps His promises, and as the Good Shepherd who knows His sheep by name, loves them, protects them, and never abandons them.

Pastor Gordon contrasts our common idea of “not wanting” (getting everything we desire) with the biblical promise that, in Christ, we will lack nothing we truly need—especially in light of eternity. Using images of wandering, foolish sheep and faithful shepherds, he calls children and adults alike to examine whether Jesus is truly their Lord and Shepherd, to trust His saving work, and to enter into His unbreakable covenant of grace.
